Spiritual meaning

In crystal tradition: Silver Sheen Obsidian is associated with linking the grounded Earth Star to the cosmic Soul Star, holding a person steady while they reach upward. It is often used as a mirror stone for shadow work, showing the hidden parts of the Self so they can be seen and integrated.

Emotional meaning

Often used to build willpower, perseverance and determination, and to encourage clear, articulate communication with others.

Fun facts

The shimmer in sheen obsidian comes from tiny gas bubbles left over from the lava flow, lined up along layers as the molten rock moved before it cooled. Pliny the Elder wrote that obsidian took its name from Obsius, a Roman explorer said to have found it in Ethiopia.

Care and cleansing

Obsidian is a glass (about 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale), so it chips and breaks if dropped and its edges can be sharp. Wipe clean with a soft dry or damp cloth and store it apart from harder stones that could scratch the polish.
