Kunzite is named after George Frederick Kunz, Tiffany and Co's chief jeweler and a noted mineralogist, after its discovery in 1902. It shows strong pleochroism, so a single stone can look purple from one angle and nearly colorless from another.
Care and cleansing
Kunzite's color can fade in sunlight: store it out of direct sun and do not charge it in sunlight. It is hard (Mohs 6.5 to 7). Wipe with a soft cloth.
