History and lore
In history and lore: Agates of every kind were treasured as talismans in old European lore, and their wearers were said to be guarded from all dangers and endowed with 'a bold heart.' In the eleventh century, Marbodus, Bishop of Rennes, declared that agates made their wearers agreeable and persuasive. Budge noted in 1930 that agates with unusual markings were greatly prized, and that special value was attached to them.
