Summary

Bumblebee Jasper is not a jasper at all but a striking volcanic stone from the slopes of Mount Papandayan in West Java, Indonesia, banded in yellow, orange, gray and black. Its colors come from native sulfur and the arsenic minerals orpiment and realgar set in fibrous calcite. In crystal tradition it is a stone of the Sacral and Solar Plexus, a talisman against negativity that keeps you buzzing with purpose, productivity and joy.

Fun facts

The material forms where hot volcanic gases and mineral rich water seep through the ground near fumaroles, laying down band after band of calcite, sulfur and arsenic sulfides. Polished, those bands look like the stripes of a bumblebee, which gave the stone its trade name.

Care and cleansing

Bumblebee Jasper contains sulfur and arsenic minerals, so keep it sealed in its polish: never place it in water, baths or elixirs, wash your hands after handling it, keep it away from children and pets, and do not sand, drill or grind it. Cleanse with smoke, sound or moonlight.
