History and lore
In history and lore: Ametrine is part amethyst, and Kunz records that in the fifteenth century the gem writer Leonardo credited amethyst with the power 'to control evil thoughts' and to quicken the intelligence. An amethyst worn on the person was believed to have a sobering effect, not only on those who had drunk too freely but also on the over-excited. In northern India, the folklorist William Crooke recorded in 1896, amethyst was counted among the nine gems of the Nauratana, assigned to Rahu, and was said to leave its wearer unaffected by wine.
