Fun facts

A scarab ring carved from amazonite was found inside Tutankhamun's tomb, and some chapters of the Egyptian Book of the Dead were etched directly onto slabs of amazonite stone. Ancient Babylonians were crafting seals from it as far back as 16,000 years BCE. Greek legend held that the Amazonian warrior women inlaid their shields with it as a symbol of courage, even though amazonite is not actually found anywhere near the Amazon River, and the name may have been a case of mistaken geography that stuck for thousands of years.
