Fun facts

Creedite was first described in 1916 from the Creede Quadrangle in Mineral County, Colorado, named after the mining town where it was found. The orange varieties are easily recognizable for their clustered hedgehog-like spikes and are considered the purest of the Creedite varieties, primarily found within a mine in Chihuahua, Mexico that also contains the very rare Pink Fluorite. A combination of low hardness, perfect cleavage, and the mineral rarely forming facetable crystals means creedite is almost never cut. Only a handful of faceted gems are known to exist anywhere, making every cluster specimen the closest most people will ever get to owning this mineral in a displayable form.
