Summary
Herkimer Diamonds are not diamonds but doubly terminated quartz crystals, with a natural point at each end, found in the dolostone of Herkimer County, New York. They grew in small cavities in rock laid down about 500 million years ago, which let them form free on every side, and their clarity and sharp faces earned them the diamond name. In crystal tradition they are a powerful amplifier of energy, a Stone of Attunement for the Third Eye and Crown that harmonizes the astral realm with the physical.

Fun facts
Prospectors have dug Herkimers out of the Mohawk Valley since the 1700s, and fee mines still let visitors crack the rock and keep what they find. Many crystals hold tiny pockets of water or flecks of black anthraxolite from the ancient sea floor, and because they formed without touching anything they are among the few quartz crystals with a point at both ends.
Care and cleansing
Quartz is hard (Mohs 7). Rinse in lukewarm water, dry with a soft cloth and keep it away from sudden temperature changes. Cleanse with water, smoke, sound or moonlight.
