History and lore
In history and lore: Long before the trade name Golden Healer, quartz carried a medical reputation in Europe: in the early sixteenth century Germans called rock crystal the 'vertigo-stone,' believed to preserve its wearer from attacks of dizziness. In the 1600s the Danish chemist Ole Borch prepared a rock crystal tincture that he firmly believed was a remedy for dropsy and melancholia. Sanskrit gem texts translated by Tagore in 1879 said of rock crystal that a good one was 'an infallible remedy in all cases of poisoning.'
