History and lore
In history and lore: In his 1930 survey of amulets the Egyptologist Wallis Budge wrote that many Indians and Persians wore onyx as an amulet against the Evil Eye, and William Crooke recorded in 1896 that in northern India onyx, called the Sulaimani or stone of Solomon, was held to have mystic virtues. This was lore told of onyx as a whole.
